48 Hours in Zurich: A Neighborhood Itinerary

Pick your Zurich — the medieval Altstadt, the lakefront, Zurich West or a hilltop — and settle in.

Zurich wraps the north end of Lake Zurich, where the Limmat river flows out through the old town. The west bank has Lindenhof, the Fraumünster and Bahnhofstrasse; the east bank has the Grossmünster and the lanes of the Niederdorf. Seefeld runs along the east shore past the Opera House, the Dolder and the zoo sit on the Zürichberg above, and Langstrasse and Zurich West spread out behind the main station. The Uetliberg is the city’s own mountain, and Lucerne and the Rhine Falls are each under an hour by train. Trams cover everything in the city. Confirm hours before you go; we do not invent them here.
