48 Hours in London: A Neighborhood Itinerary

Pick your London — the West End, Westminster, the South Bank, the East End or the villages to the west — and settle in.

London follows the Thames. The West End (Covent Garden and Soho) and Westminster sit on the north bank, with the South Bank’s galleries and markets opposite. The City and the Tower are to the east, with Shoreditch and Spitalfields beyond, and King’s Cross and Marylebone are north of the centre. South Kensington and Notting Hill are to the west, and Greenwich is downriver. The Tube, buses and river boats link it all. Many of the big museums are free. Confirm hours before you go; we do not invent them here.
