Privacy at Roam48
Last updated: October 2026
Roam48 is a small travel site run by Jeramie Maxwell and owned by Agate Capital LLC, a Delaware company. This page covers what we learn about you when you visit, what we do with it, and how to reach us. If anything here is unclear, write to hello@roam48.com and we'll answer.
What we collect
You can read every guide without telling us anything. We only collect a few things:
- Your email, if you sign up for new spots. The “Hear about new spots” form on the homepage asks for your email and nothing else.
- Your trip details, if you ask for a free plan. The “Heading to…?” form asks where you're staying, when you arrive and leave, your email, and, if you like, a few things you love. We also note which city or neighborhood page you sent it from.
- Your tip, if you send us a spot. The “Know a spot” box saves what you type and the neighborhood you were reading about. It doesn't ask for your name or email, so please leave out anything personal.
- A scrambled form of your IP address with plan requests and tips. It helps us stop spam. We never save the raw address with your note.
- How the site gets used. Our analytics tools show us which pages people read, roughly where visitors are (country or city), what device and browser they use, and what link brought them here.
- Basic server logs. Like most websites, our host keeps short-lived request logs, including IP addresses, to keep the site running and safe.
Why we use it
- To send the emails you asked for.
- To put together your two-day plan and email it to you. Asking for a plan also adds you to our email list, so now and then we'll send a new spot we love. The form says so right under the button.
- To find new places for the guides. We read every tip ourselves, and tips are never shown on the site.
- To see which guides people find useful, so we know what to write next.
- To keep the site safe and working.
If you're in the UK or EU: we send emails and use Google Analytics cookies because you said yes (your consent). We use cookie-free Vercel analytics, spam protection and tips because we have a legitimate interest in running and improving a small website.
Who helps us run the site
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with the companies that run things for us:
- Vercel hosts the site, stores plan requests and tips privately, and runs Vercel Web Analytics.
- Kit (formerly ConvertKit) keeps our email list and sends our emails.
- Google Analytics shows us how the site is used.
- Expedia Group, including Vrbo, and Partnerize, which runs Expedia's affiliate program, see the clicks on our hotel and rental links. More on that under “Booking links.”
These companies may store data in the United States. We'd also share information if the law required it.
Cookies and analytics
Google Analytics uses cookies (named _ga and similar) to tell new visitors from returning ones. Vercel Web Analytics works without cookies.
If you're visiting from the EU, the UK or Switzerland, a small bar at the bottom of the page asks first. Google Analytics only loads, and only sets its cookies, if you tap OK. If you don't, nothing goes to Google at all. We remember your answer for a year in a small cookie of our own (r48_consent), and a one-day cookie (r48_region) tells the site whether to show the bar. You can change your answer here any time.
Anywhere else, you can turn off Google Analytics with Google's opt-out add-on, by blocking cookies in your browser settings, or with a content blocker. The site works just the same.
We don't run ads or ad pixels on roam48.com, and we don't use Google Analytics to show you ads.
Booking links
Some of our hotel and rental links go through the Expedia Group affiliate program. If you book through one, we may earn a small commission. It doesn't cost you anything extra.
When you click one of those links, Expedia Group and Partnerize use cookies and similar tracking on their own sites so the booking is credited to us. That happens on their side, under the Expedia, Vrbo and Partnerize privacy policies. Expedia handles the booking and payment on its own site. We never see your payment details.
Our other links, like Google Maps, Yelp, X and the places' own websites, take you to sites with their own privacy policies.
Emails and unsubscribing
We only email you if you signed up for new spots or asked for a plan. Every email from our list has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. You can also write to hello@roam48.com and we'll take you off.
How long we keep things
- Email list: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete you.
- Plan requests: Up to 12 months after your trip, then deleted.
- Tips: Up to 12 months.
- Google Analytics: Google keeps this analytics data for up to 14 months.
- Vercel Web Analytics: nothing that identifies a single visitor is kept past a day.
- Server logs: kept by our host, Vercel, for a short time.
Your choices
You can ask what we have about you, ask us to fix it, or ask us to delete it. Just write to hello@roam48.com. We'll answer within 30 days, and we may ask you to write from the same email address so we know it's you.
In California: you have the right to know what personal information we have, to correct or delete it, and to not be treated differently for asking. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use it to show you ads. Other US states give similar rights, and we'll honor them the same way.
In the UK, EU or Switzerland: you can also object to or limit how we use your data, get a copy to take elsewhere, withdraw your consent at any time, and complain to your local data protection authority.
Kids
Roam48 is written for grown-ups planning trips. It isn't meant for children under 13, or under the minimum age where you live, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has sent us something, let us know and we'll delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
