Berlin’s ban on misusing housing (Zweckentfremdungsverbot) means renting out a whole flat to visitors needs a permit from the district office, which comes with a registration number that must be shown in every online listing. Second homes are generally limited to 90 rental days a year, and illegal rentals can be fined up to €500,000. Before booking on Vrbo, check that the listing shows a Berlin registration number.
